The first House haunts is a series of short animated audio poems that reflect on home in color, object, and in memory, and is a part of the public art series, “Longing is Just a Word for Knowing.”
When we talk about home, rarely do we have the opportunity to speak about it outside of the “brick and mortar” of housing. Vermont communities are facing their greatest need for housing development, and it is critical for Vermonters to think as much about community connection and environmental resilience as the physicality of development. But "home" has very specific connotations for each individual based on their own cultural experiences, personal histories, and where they have lived geographically. Where vocabulary fails or recalls already divided definitions, art can broaden our housing vernacular. This digital and physical project celebrates the intimate and restful gestures we take while in our neighborhood public spaces through a series of site-responsive, public paintings, audio interviews, and housing advocacy resources. 
Through audio poems, paintings, and installations, this project reflects the individual activities we do when we are at ease in public together, and activates under-loved moments in our city infrastructure. “Longing is Just Our Word for Knowing” points audiences’ attention to these quiet niche’s where our urban wildlife thrives against forgotten concrete corners and alleys, and where our familiar neighborhood businesses hold us as community members, humans and wildlife alike. The slow, connective relationship people have to the urban and natural environments they live in is gleaned in the laying of roots- and that requires housing stability.
